The Cadwell House was built in 1890–91 by William H. Cadwell, New Britain's leading architect of the late nineteenth century, who designed and built the residence as a wedding gift for his bride, Frances Hadley. The house is an ornate example of the Chateauesque style, constructed of yellow brick, limestone, and Portland brownstone, with terra cotta ornamentation and a slate roof — a striking presence at what has long served as the gateway intersection into Downtown New Britain, standing beside the New Britain Public Library and the city's Old Post Office.
Over the twentieth century the house passed from private residence into professional use, most notably serving for decades as law offices. Its ornamental brick and stonework, terra cotta detailing, and slate roofline have kept it one of the most distinctive buildings along West Main Street.
Amodio & Co. owns and manages the Cadwell House, restored to preserve its original doors, woodwork, floors, and fireplaces. The building now offers bespoke, all-inclusive professional office suites — well suited to law firms, financial and real estate professionals, and therapists — with shared conference and kitchenette space, on-site parking, and utilities included.
